Bible Stories With Lasting Appeal And Relevance
Posted on: September 17, 2011
Why should we encourage our children to read Bible stories or why should we take the time to read Bible stories to them? Are there not so many other interesting and appealing sources available today, in a world that majors on entertaining people of all ages? We remember the comics and magazines that we avidly read in years past but most of the content of most of those sources, has long since slipped from our memories so that we only have a vague and hazy recollection of the stories and characters.
In contrast, who cannot remember with an amazing degree of accuracy and detail, the story of Creation, the disobedience and expulsion of Adam and Eve from the Garden of Eden, the stories of Noah and the Ark, the battle between David and Goliath, the experience of Daniel in the den of lions, the terror of King Belshazzar as he saw the writing on the wall, the thrilling story of the Passover and the deliverance of the Jewish slaves from Egyptian bondage and so many other Bible stories which we learned early in life? Their impact was greater than we anticipated it to be at the time we were first introduced to these stories and has outlasted that which derived from other sources.
Though many would prefer to ignore this fact, it remains incontrovertibly true that the Bible is still the best-selling book in the entire world, outperforming all its competitors and having been translated into more languages and dialects that any other piece of literature in all human history. It has been recognised in academic realms as literature of unparalleled excellence, accredited by many academics to be incomparable as to language, style, structure, both in its prose and poetry. There are therefore many compelling reasons as to why Bible stories are more memorable and meaningful than any others, no matter from what source they are culled.
I would encourage you to have every confidence in the stories that have interested past generations throughout the world and even though you are not in any way religious or inclined to read the Bible yourself; if you really want the very best for your children, then I confidently point you in the direction of Bible stories as the most prolific and best source of reading material for your children. They have a life of their own and will embed themselves in the minds and memories of all who read them.
